Tried to get Caracel (or whatever, that little snow fox) in my team but he just kept getting killed straight away and I ain't got time for that right now. I'm also superficial and only choose monsters I like the look of, which tend to be cute ones or ones that look like dragons or dinos. I've finished fights where thanks to his auto healing and support abilities he just heals back every bit of damage the enemy can do to him automatically every turn. He's the one left standing at the end of every battle, I use him for stacking Support from the beginning of the round and Fireball and Mud Shot are both really good damage dealers. Without a doubt my most powerful monster atm is Ninky. In my team so far, my current 6 are: Ninka Nanka, Molebear, Astral Wolf, Catzerker, that blue dinosaur thing, and a space that is currently being swapped around a lot. I'm still not to grips yet with why some monsters just seem to have way better stats than others. I'm only level 28 and hitting Horizon Beach, so not near completion yet, but I will say so far that I am just trying out new monsters fairly regularly and seeing what works. After around 4 or 5 areas, I find the enemies ramp up in tankiness and that's when tight synergy is more important, but hope this helps! There are tons more, but I find that I've used at least one of these 3 in each of my 3 playthroughs. Mad Eye/Imori: Do you like stacking debuffs and lots of hits to buold combo? Because these guys can do that and you get them decently early. Steam Golem (through lvl 25): I've only used it for buffing and shielding, but for me it pretty much kept me at max healthiness in most/all early fights, which is great for battle ratings. Tengu (used through lvl33): makes a great last hit monster with it's powerful low-hit fire/earth attachs and is easy to build it's damage by stacking max mana. I realize that's not terribly helpful, so some of my favorites while progressing are: Some monsters get abilities later that really open up their ability to fill a role you might need (like stacking debuffs, a monster aura, etc) or expand their offensive capabilities. Others have mentioned much about the viability of all monsters if you synergize the team well, but I'd also like to mention it depends on where you are in the game too.
